The Company
SEFE Storage GmbH, based in Kassel, is one of Europe´s largest operators of natural gas storage facilities. The company's activities on the European natural gas market focus above all on a secure supply for its customers. SEFE Storage markets a natural gas storage volume of nearly 6 billion cubic meters and holds approx. 25 per cent of the total natural gas storage capacities in Germany.
The SEFE Storage natural gas storage facility at Rehden, south of Bremen, is one of the largest in Western Europe. About four billion cubic metres of natural gas can be stored at a depth of 2,000 metres in an area covering around eight square kilometres. This storable quantity of gas is sufficient to supply two million households with natural gas for a whole year.
SEFE Storage is continuing to invest in the development of storage capacities. In 2007, one of Central Europe's largest natural gas storage facilities was put into operation in Haidach, Austria, about 30 kilometres northeast of Salzburg. Since commissioning the final expansion phase in May 2011, the storage volume has doubled. One third of the total storage capacities are commercialised by SEFE Storage.
SEFE Storage also constructed a cavern storage facility in Jemgum in the German state of Lower Saxony. The Jemgum cavern storage facility was finished in 2020 and is the ideal complement to SEFE Storages existing pore storage facilities and ensures SEFE Storages steady growth towards becoming one of Europe's largest natural gas storage operators.
